Keep the healthy foods in the front and less healthy foods in the back of the refrigerator and cupboards. To encourage healthy eating.

Every day, we make choices about the food we eat and our lifestyles. We can make choices for ourselves and our families that make a real difference to our ability to remain healthy and active. For people trying to eat healthily and maintain their weight, simple healthy food habits can help keep us on the right track.

Here are some ways you can accomplish this:

• Limit unhealthy snack foods in the home. Be careful about the foods you keep at hand. It’s more challenging to eat in moderation if you have unhealthy snacks and treats at the ready. Keep healthy foods in the front and less healthy foods in the back of the refrigerator and cupboards.

• Instead of eating processed snack foods, snack on healthy food such as vegetables such as carrots, snow peas, or celery along with a spicy hummus dip or almond butter.

• Flavor your foods with herbs, vinegar, mustard, or lemon instead of fatty sauces.
